Quarrying is the process of extracting rock, sand, gravel, or other minerals from the ground for the production of building materials or other uses. A quarry is a workplace where minerals are extracted from the surface of the earth. Quarries are also known by other names around the world: "surface mines", "pits", "open pit mines" , the largest quantities of minerals extracted in quarries are used in the construction industry.
