Surface mining has been practiced for thousands of years. Over time, many different related technologies have been developed, depending on the ore and the state of the technology.

What is surface mining?

Simply put, surface mining is a method of collecting minerals from beneath the earth's surface, and there are many forms of surface mining.we will focus on open pit mining.

Surface Mining Applications

The mineral range of open pit mining includes many minerals. Ores such as copper, gold and iron are mined in the open pit and account for most of their annual production. Other minerals such as diamonds, manganese, aluminum, and zinc can also be selected for open pit mining depending on site conditions.

Purpose of open pit mining

In open-pit mining, most of the material extracted from the open pit is processed and then discarded. Workers find useful minerals in the processed material. Most of the rock and dirt is discarded, leaving only the minerals to await further processing.
